What are Window Graphics?
Window graphics (also known as window decals or stickers) are used in many different types of buildings including shops, offices, libraries, restaurants, hospitals and much more. They offer a fantastic means to utilise additional space for advertising and dramatically increase window visibility to help avoid accidents.
The graphics can be cut from individually coloured pieces of vinyl or printed in full onto clear window film. Cutting vinyl is more effective for creating simplistic designs such as lettering and geometric shapes. Printing methods are generally used for full scale pieces featuring much more detail.
What is Glass Manifestation?
Glass manifestation is the process of applying a frosted film to windows in order to create an etched/engraved effect onto it.
Window manifestation is a legal requirement for many areas of glazing. It makes large panes of glass more visible to people and helps to avoid nasty accidents.
Section 7.4 of Approved Document K states that all of the following must be adhered to in non-domestic buildings.
- Glass manifestation should be visible at 2 levels as shown in diagram 7.2: Height of manifestation for glass doors and glazed screens 850mm – 1000mm and 1400mm – 1600mm.
- The manifestation must contrast visually with the background seen through the glass from inside and out and in all lighting conditions.
- Manifestation in the form of a logo or sign should be a minimum of 150mm high and repeated if on a glazed screen. Decorative features such as broken lines or continuous bands should be a minimum of 50mm high.
- Where glazed doors are a part of or beside a glazed screen, they must be marked clearly with a high contrast strip at the top and on both sides.
- Where glass doors may be held open, they must be protected with guarding to prevent collision with the leading edge.
According to Approved Document K “manifestation can take various forms, e.g. broken or solid lines, patterns or company logos”.
